Prevention of New HIV Infections

a. HIV testing   and counseling  services are provided through all 17 BOCAIP centers.  Counseling           services comprise:

    • Pre-test counseling
    • Post-test counseling
    • Ongoing supportive counseling

b. Community Outreaches and Mobilization

Outreaches and campaigns are conducted in schools, work- places, churches, hospitals, public meeting places, prisons   and   from house to house. The campaign activities are used to educate people on different health issues such as HIV prevention and testing, Gender Based Violence (GBV), Community TB Care (CTBC) and importance of caring for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC).

c. Gender Based Violence Project, Care Program (GBV)

BOCAIP implements GBV Programme in Okavango, Ngami and South East district. Activities includes:

    • Community awareness on GBV
    • Providing post GBV care to GBV survivors
    • Capacitate law enforcers and religious leaders on addressing GBV
    • DREAMS
    • Alcohol and Substance Abuse

d. HIV prevention and response targeting Adolescents and Youth (AYP) including adolescent girls and young women

    • Mobilisation of AGYW for DREAMS services
    • HIV/AIDS prevention education
    • Identification of AYP at risk of acquiring HIV
    • Referral of AYP to clinical prevention services (PrEP, PEP, VMMC)
    • Referral of AYP to post gender-based violence prevention services

e. Community Care & support of People Living with HIV (PLHIV)

BOCHAIP provides the following services to support retention of PLHIV on anti-retroviral treatment (ART)

    • Adherence counselling
    • Follow-up of PLHIV who have interrupted ART to be re-initiated on ART
    • Disclosure and partner notification support
    • Partner elicitation and HIV testing
    • Counselling & education on TB/HIV coinfection, STIs, family planning and importance of good nutrition
    • Appointment reminders
    • ART Community medication refills (CMR)
    • Community TB DoTs for PLHIV on TB treatment
