COMMUNITY-FOCUSED HIV/AIDS PROGRAM FOR BOTSWANA (COFHAB)

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has been increasing funding to local partners since 2018 through direct prime awards in order to achieve country ownership, and long-term sustainability of the HIV response. In January 2020 BOCHAIP became a direct recipient of a 3-year USAID funding award as a prime partner to implement the Community Focused HIV/AIDS Program for Botswana (COFHAB) project. Through this award BOCHAIP, supports the maintenance of uninterrupted delivery of quality HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treat services within communities and by extension efforts towards achievement of the UNAIDS fast track targets 95/95/95.

This is achieved by ensuring that people living with HIV (PLHIV) are identified earlier, initiated on antiretroviral treatment (ART) early enough and are supported to remain in long-term care and treatment through our community health care system.  The project supports HIV prevention efforts targeting adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) through the DREAMS program, identifies PLHIV who do not know their HIV status through HIV testing, linkage to treatment and supports them to achieve viral suppression through strong community HIV and TB care program. Furthermore, through this project, BOCHAIP supports tuberculosis (TB) control in Botswana by implementing community TB Care (CTBC) to support patients on TB treatment through direct observed treatment (DOTs). The project also addresses societal and structural barriers which perpetuate HIV infections with more focus on gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and post GBV care.  The project is implemented in Gaborone, South-East, Kgatleng and Kweneng East (DREAMS only).
