1
Yesterday BOCHAIP attended a CSW press brief by the Minister of Youth, Gender, Sports and Culture, Hon. Tumiso Rakgare.
The press briefing was to give an update from the Gender Commission and the CSW27 convention that the Commission attended in New York this year .
The Minister highlighted that there is great progress in our country on combating gender disparities that we are proud of as a nation, yet there is still a lot that needs to be done. He gave insight that most of senior positions in the corporate are held by men but as for the the government side, it is doing its best to curb this as now there are 18 ministers and more than half of Permanent secretaries of these are women and also most of Director positions in government are held by women.
The minister went on to say that more efforts needs to be made intentionally towards empowering and including women in leadership spaces through legislation. In terms of political leadership, women are still lacking far behind. Women were also encouraged to be bold and brave in finding their space in LEADERSHIP and TECHNOLOGY SPACE as these are the 2 most areas in which they are lacking behind.
He emphasized the importance of POLITICAL WILL in winning this battle and that it is the responsibility each and everyone of us to ensure gender balance just starting from our homes, work places, churches, and relationships in general.
